Lenovo batteries will be recalled and replaced: for what reason?
Lenovo PC HK Ltd. informed Indecopi about the Removal and replacement of some Lenovo Go USB-C Laptop Power Bank batteries (20000 mAh), identified with part number 40ALLG2WWW, manufactured between January and June 2022. This action is due to the possibility of overheating of the lithium-ion device and even fire during charging. Furthermore, the central cause of this problem is the eventual fall of a screw between the rib of the cover and the printed circuit board, which could cause a short circuit.
What are the measures taken by Lenovo?
According to Indecopi, Lenovo would take the following actions against the risk of overheating while charging its batteries:
- Send a warning letter to importers and distributors ordering them to stop selling the power bank and remove it from distribution channels.
- Ask importers and distributors to inform their customers of this situation and stop using the product, as well as provide them with instructions on how to proceed free of charge.
- Send consumers new power banks to replace the affected ones.
- Build a website to guide users and provide them with adequate support.
