The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreraspointed out that 2023 has been especially adverse for the Peruvian economy, marked by negative impacts on GDP.
“The consensus is a contraction of minus 0.5% by the end of 2023, it is also the last number that the BCRP has given. This has been one of the worst years due to the presence of shocks of different nature in the same period of time, both climatic, social, and very strong sectoral impactslike what happened with fishing or agro-exports,” he told RPP this Thursday, December 28.
Along these lines, he highlighted that in 2022 more than US$2.3 billion have been awarded, which represents 24 times more than what was obtained in 2022. Likewiseor, for the first quarter the expectation is to award US$4,000 million.
“These resources are going to materialize in job creation, production, and recovery of private investment. Important projects have also been unlocked,” added Contreras.
With respect to private investmenthighlighted that although private investment had a contraction of 12%, it is now moderating and the MEF expects a growth of 2.2% in the following months.
