Petroecuador officials and contractors had to be evacuated from Platform B of the Ishpingo field, part of Block 43-ITT, in Orellana, as a safety measure ahead of the protest by members of the Waorani Kawymeno community that forced the paralysis of oil activities since the morning of Wednesday, December 27.

This was announced by the public company in a statement shared at night. The entity reported that approaches are being managed with community leaders “to reach agreements between both parties”, with the aim of ending the paralysis.

He stated that the facilities of the platform are guarded by members of the Armed Forces and the National Police.

Although the statement did not explain the reasons that led the community to suspend activities on the platforms, Petroecuador indicated that “it will respect the commitments made with Kawymen and will carry out the relevant actions, within its powers, to develop the construction works. “social compensation for welfare of this community.”

In addition, the company announced that it will create working groups with local authorities to re-establish activities.

Petroecuador specified that during normal operation platform B produces 17,000 barrels of oil per day.

On November 7, a meeting was held between the authorities of Petroecuador and representatives of various ministries and public bodies with the leaders of the Kawymeno community.
