Mincul, Sernanp and Dicapi will also be in charge of tourist security

The Peruvian Government modified Law 29408, General Tourism Law, to include the Ministry of Culture (Mincul), the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp) and the General Directorate of Captaincy and Coast Guard (Dcapi) in the Network of Tourist Protection.

Through legislative decree 1598, issued as part of the powers granted by the Congress of the Republic, the Executive Branch also delegates responsibility for the network to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

From now on, the network must coordinate with the competent entities, at the national level, the exchange of timely information in relation to events that affect tourists and their property, as well as the actions that are planned or being carried out for their attention. , “in addition to providing technical assistance and coordinating with Regional Networks, within the framework of strengthening tourism security.”

Regarding the formation of the network, in addition to the change of 1 member of the Directorate of the Specialized Tourism Police of the PNP for 1 representative of the Directorate of Tourism of the PNP, 3 representatives are included – 1 for each organization – from Mincul, Dicapi and Sernanp.

“The activities of the Tourist Protection Network are carried out at the national level in accordance with the Tourist Protection Plan and the provisions of the Tourism Sector,” the document states.

General Tourism Law: Regional governments also in charge

On the other hand, each regional government, based on its needs, can form, in its respective area, a Regional Tourist Protection Network. To identify its members, the formation of the Tourist Protection Network may be taken into consideration.

These regional networks exercise functions in an articulated manner with the Tourist Protection Network, as well as with the various public and private institutions within the scope of the corresponding Regional Government, within the framework of strengthening tourism security.

It also seeks to optimally manage the protection and safety of tourists, “whose functions must be carried out with cultural and linguistic relevance, when appropriate.”
