More than 40,000 microentrepreneurs in Gamarra have brought forward the summer campaign to be able to recover economically from the losses suffered in recent months.
And, despite the wealthy presence of the public for Christmas and New Year, They expect purchases in this section to fall by 50% compared to the pre-pandemic level and barely equals what was recorded in 2022.
Susana Saldaña, president of the Gamarra Peru Association, acknowledged that merchants expected to place up to 70% of their production in the wholesale campaign at the end of the year, but this ended without much light. He plans to close it with S / 2,000 million in sales, approximately half of the average before the coronavirus (S / 3,800 million).
“We closed with 50% of the levels below pre-pandemic sales (in the end-of-year campaign). We wanted to finish at least 4,000 million soles, but it will not be possible,” he mentioned to La República.
End of year auctions
Faced with the adverse scenario, the commercial emporium relies on retail sales to meet its goal, which, until December 31, continues to generate income in so-called last-minute purchases.
This newspaper confirmed that in some places and galleries Sets are offered, both for women and men, from S/15 to S/30. For larger quantities, a discount is applied to the height.
“There are clothes from five soles and outfits from 15 soles. All at retail price. Definitely, there is more public than in 2020 and 2021, but some days we barely surpass that of 2022,” added Saldaña, who recognizes that the recession has dented the amount of consumption in homes.
Fight against informality
Saldaña demanded that the authorities of La Victoria keep Gamarra free of informal commerce because, despite the checkerboard being freed months ago, last weekend the presence of street vendors was again recorded which, in the long run, complicates the expectations of sale of those that do operate in accordance with the law.
Data
