EP Petroecuador announced that the production of Campo Amistad will increase by about 4 million cubic feet in January 2024. To this end, the company has allocated human and financial resources to carry out work on the restoration and maintenance of wells without towers – a method known as RIEGLESS – in the fields of natural gas AMSB-10 and AMSA 016S1, Amistad field, block 6, located 70 kilometers offshore, in the Gulf of Guayaquil.

The decision was announced amid unofficial reports that Petroecuador’s recently appointed director, Eduardo Miranda Patiño, had resigned from his position. The resignation would be presented to the director of the Coordinating Company of Public Enterprises, Jorge Benavides. Miranda was appointed last Friday, and his first decision was to declare the ongoing tender for Campo Amistad void.

Meanwhile, now, with the reconditioning, Petroecuador is estimated to increase its natural gas production by about 4,000,000 cubic feet per day (MMPCD) by January 2024, which will allow it to meet the existing demand for this product in the country. . Currently, the Amistad Field has a production of 20.5 million cubic feet per day (MMPCD).

During this period, a multidisciplinary team composed of company technicians and private companies will perform work on the well to increase natural gas production volumes. Rehabilitation works will continue until next year with the aim of maintaining and gradually increasing hydrocarbon production.

The Amistad platform is the only offshore operation operated by Petroecuador. Its infrastructure has 20 wells: 17 drilled and 3 production wells.

On that subject, Jorge Luis Hidalgo, joint lawyer of the Green Dynamics consortium, the only company that competed to win the tender that was declared invalid, thinks it is unfortunate that the manager of Petroecuador just took the management chair to make a decision that affects the national production, because of which the competition did not exist. He believes that the decision will represent a greater risk of power outages in the future.

The tender sought to increase gas production from 25 million cubic feet to 100 million cubic feet. This gas is necessary to power the Termogás Machala plant, essential to avoid power outages.
