The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported that, in the third quarter of 2023, the number of active companies registered in the Central Directory of Companies and Establishments was 3 million 216,007 companies, a figure higher by 4% than the same quarter of 2022. .
The data, which takes as its source the Taxpayer Registry of the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), also maintains that 75,712 companies were created between July and September, while some 144,318 closed their activities.
“Recording a negative net variation of 68,606, due to the fact that Sunat, the main provider of the base administrative registry, has reactivated a process to verify ex officio cancellations,” says INEI.
According to INEI, this update to the third quarter of 2023 represents an increase of 15.2%, if only the creation of companies is taken into account compared to the similar period of the previous year.
It should be noted that the registration rate (new companies), which relates the companies created in the third quarter of 2023 with the business stock at the end of the period, constituted 2.4% of the total.
Meanwhile, the business mortality rate, which shows the relationship between companies that stopped operating with the stock at the end of the period in question, was 4.5%. Consequently, a negative net variation rate of -2.1% was obtained.
The largest number of companies created was mainly in retail trade activities (25.5%), other services that include personal services, human health, associations, real estate, sports, leisure and recreational activities, teaching and financial (13.3%), wholesale trade (13.1%), services provided to companies (9.4%), food and beverage service activities (8.9%), transportation and storage (8 .1%) and manufacturing industries (6.9%).
