The Central Bank of Ecuador has presented new fractional coins that allude to the historical figures of the country and from this Monday, December 18, 2023, they enter circulation in the financial system and automatic windows and dispensers of the Central Bank.
There are two new faceted 50 cent coins Matilde Hidalgo from Procel and Tránsito Amaguaña. These women stood up for the fight for the rights of women and indigenous peoples and are now added to the faces on the coins. Currently, the 50 centavos features the image of the former president and leader of the Liberal Revolution, Eloy Alfaro.

Images of former presidents Galo Plaza Lasso and Jaime Roldós Aguilera appear on the 10-cent coin. Currently, these coins feature the image of journalist and doctor Eugenio Espejo.
The five-cent one, which features Ambateño writer Juan Montalvo, now also features the image of former president Isidro Ayora.
