The Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Daniel Maurate, announced that the first meeting of the National Labor Council (CNTPE), in which there is no clarity about an increase in the minimum wage, will take place in January 2024.

In statements to RPP Noticias, Maurate maintained that the first meeting of the CNTPE will take place without prior announcement or presence of the press, that is, unofficially.

“Social dialogue is very important. I am making a lot of effort to install the National Labor Council but for it to be permanent and lasting. What has happened is that workers and employers have lost confidence in the institution,” the minister said.

Just a month ago, the head of the MTPE recognized that “this level of minimum vital remuneration is not enough to give people a decent life.” However, I associate the debate for its increase with getting out of the recession.

The Minister of Labor also said that this space, according to mutual agreement with companies and unions, should serve not only to discuss regulatory issues, but also about informality and productivity.

“Now we have a budget for 2024 of approximately S/14 million. If I manage to finish the budget and have more young people [que quieran participar en Jóvenes Productivos], let’s order more. We have to work hard to go for a new one and continue training young people,” she highlighted.
