Pedro Francke: “Mining companies have earned $ 13 billion in additional revenue”

Near the end of the year 2021, Pedro Francke, head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), spoke about public investment, economic growth, among other topics. In this sense, the minister revealed a fact regarding the mining in Peru: “Copper has risen in price and mining companies, in this period, have gained $ 13 billion in additional income ”.

The head of the MEF pointed out that the rise in prices at the international level has hit the country with respect to oil and food, however, he was emphatic when referring to the rise in copper. “It is necessary that at this time, we have so many needs for health, roads, drinking water, [las empresas mineras] share that wealth, since they have extraordinary profits, “he said. Likewise, the official pointed out that investors trust the economic growth in our country. “Peru has the lowest benefit rate in Latin America, with 2.6%. Other countries in the region ask for the same percentage of presentation as Peru and they are denied it. “

Regarding public investment, Francke revealed that this year they will invest 36 million soles, 3,000 more than in the pre-pandemic. “There is an improvement in public investment, indeed, there are also issues to resolve, that is why we insist on a new contracting law,” he said.

At the end of the interview, the minister stressed the following: “From the MEF we want to promote the strengthening of public management at the regional and local level to administer public works and public services.” However, he said that the budget is a key element because it is a “great limitation.”
