Christmas and New Years: 33% of Peruvians prefer to save their money during the end of the year holidays

Christmas and New Years are just around the corner and Peruvians are already planning how to spend these celebrations, as well as the purchases that they will perform, either for themselves or for their loved ones.

A study conducted by Ipsos for Google revealed the behavior that Peruvian consumers will have in this season at the end of the year.

In this way, Peruvian buyers have reflected the need to have more control of their personal budget by making more planned and intelligent purchases.

For example, 33% of local consumers prefer to save their money, such as that of the gratification, during this season for future needs, while 26% have saved throughout the year to be able to make necessary purchases.

These are the four types of purchases that Peruvians will make this end of the year:

  • 44% of consumers will buy gifts for close friends and family.
  • 59% will purchase products that they need and that they have not had the opportunity to buy.
  • 30% will buy products that need to be replaced.
  • Only 27% will purchase gifts for themselves.

The survey also revealed that consumers of the Peru (68%) plan their purchases in advance, above those who make impulse purchases (26%), and this planning will be done through online product searches (53%).

Regarding the final purchase, taking into account consumer behavior in the last six months, 52% of Peruvians will make it both online and in physical stores, 37% will do it only in physical stores and only 10% you will do it exclusively online.

Gonzalo Mariátegui, commercial director for the retail industry at Google Peru, pointed out that Peruvians are increasingly planning the purchases they will make at different stages of the year, for this reason it is important to know which are the most relevant time frames for them and thus be able to create more efficient strategies to offer them better services and products when and in the way they need it.

The report also found that Peruvians already know where they will celebrate the holidays: 66% plan to stay at home, while only 14% have a trip in mind. However, although most have the intention of celebrating in one way or another, the sentiment that stands out the most among consumers, in relation to the purchase of gifts, is to be careful in spending.
