In Ecuador, it has been announced that due to the holiday, the blackout will be suspended from this Friday, December 15, 2023, to resume in January. However, the Ministry of Energy indicated that the situation does not allow this.

Thus, the Government announced that there will be no blackouts for six days:

Electricity rationing began in Ecuador on October 27. Currently, the service is suspended for two hours in sectors and cities.

However, the situation has not improved, so starting Friday, December 15, the timetable will be extended by an additional hour, according to the latest statement from the Ministry of Energy.

The Paute integral hydroelectric complex – composed of the Molino, Mazar and Sopladora plants – is currently not producing at its maximum capacity and contributes between 10% and 15% of the country’s energy needs, while in winter its capacity generates between 35% and 40% of energy.

The Minister of Energy, Andrea Arrobo, is traveling this Tuesday, December 12 to Bogotá to hold meetings with her Colombian counterpart to coordinate regulatory issues and improve market prices.
