The mining company Nexa reported that, after almost a week of a blockade carried out by a group of people to the access roads of the Cerro Lindo Mining Unit, it suspends its operations. They call on the authorities of the Government and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) to propose an immediate solution.
“The environmental and operational sustainability of the unit is affected, which has generated a progressive reduction in the rate of production until it comes to a complete standstill. In this way, the activities will be limited to critical operations with a minimum workforce to guarantee adequate maintenance ”, they indicate.

In addition, they reported that they are close to 2,000 people who would remain within the mining unit without the possibility of returning to their homes. Nexa indicates that this is an illegal blockade, since the people who restrict free movement would not have the support or representation of the Chavín community, so they do not have any power to negotiate agreements between the community and Nexa.
“The company clarifies that it has been dialoguing and complying with the commitments and deadlines prioritized by the directive of the peasant community of Chavín with respect to social and productive initiatives. In other words, the current conflict is not between Nexa and the peasant community, ”Nexa reported.
Also, this blocking prevents the supply of supplies, food, health and safety implements for company workers. In addition, they informed that this could affect the supply of the Cajamarquilla refinery, the largest supplier of metallic zinc for the Peruvian industry, in Lima.
