Video games and toys do not know about recession

Despite the recession, the import of toys and video games has had a significant increase at the end of the year. Most of them, of course, Chinese.

The Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) estimates that, between August and October 2023, around 108 million toys were imported for a value of US$57 million, amounts that represented an increase of 88.6% in quantity and 6.2% in value compared to the same period of 2022.

China stood out as the main supplier country with 91.9% share of the total value, followed by Vietnam (3.4%) and Mexico (2.5%).

The import of toys with wheels (cars, tractors and trains, among others) decreased by 3.2% in terms of units, and by 9.4% in amount. Even though the average unit price was reduced by 6.4%, the imported quantity did not increase.

Meanwhile, the value of imports of the sets of toys (houses, kitchen sets, doctor’s sets, soldiers’ sets, etc.) decreased 5.1%, while the imported quantity increased by 27.6%.
