Emolienteros denounce massive evictions in various districts due to inaction of the MML

The National Federation of Emollients Generating Productive Self-employment (Fenegap) denounced the systematic eviction of hundreds of its members in different parts of the capital, due to the inaction of the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima (MML) to protect their activity, as provided by Law 30198 .

The president of Fenegap, Hugo Terán, reported on the mistreatment that thousands of its members have been suffering from municipalities that do not let them work” and that, instead, evict them from “places where they have been located for several years.” .

The emollients request the mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, to promulgate the metropolitan ordinance – whose project has already been prepared – so that the sale of emollient is recognized as an activity of social, tourist and cultural interest, as established by Law 30198.

“If this municipal regulation is passed, more than 50,000 micro-entrepreneurs who are dedicated to the production and sale of this traditional medicinal drink would benefit,” Terán highlighted.

The spokesperson stressed that, although there are a series of regulations that regulate the sale of this ancient drink, there is no specific one that adequately values the work they do.

“What those of us who are dedicated to the sale of emollient are looking for is that our work is considered by the municipal authority within a fairer value level, where the importance we fulfill in the social, cultural and tourist sphere of the capital city is recognized” , he pointed.

Emoliente in Peru: an economic activity with history

The sale of emollient generates around 80,000 jobs directly and indirectly. The activity also contributes to the development of agroindustrial sectors linked to the production of barley, horsetail, anise, maca, flaxseed, quinoa, among others.

Emollient is a drink that has been consumed in our country since colonial times and its origins date back to the times of ancient Greece. It is part of our history and tradition, being recognized by various researchers, such as Hermilio Valdizán, as a national cultural legacy.
