Petroecuador’s board of directors will hold its first emergency extraordinary meeting this Monday, December 11, within the new administration of President Daniel Nobo Azín. He will decide on the availability of the position represented by the current manager(s) of the oil company, Reinaldo Armijos.

The meeting will be held starting at 9:00 a.m., and was convened by the president of the board of directors of the Public Company for Hydrocarbons of Ecuador EP Petroecuador, Jorge Benavides, who held this position from the previous administration, during the government of Guillermo Lasso.

Energy Minister Andrea Arrobo and National Secretary for Planning and Development (Senplades) Sariha Moya will also participate in the meeting.

The call has one item on the agenda:

Vanessa Nicola, head of corporate governance and administration (e) at EMCO EP, will act as secretary ad hoc during the session.

As far as is known, last November the president of EMCO requested the availability of all managers of state-owned companies. In this sense, the dismissal or ratification of Armijos will be analyzed on this occasion.

Armijos arrived at the company as director of international trade in September 2022, then replaced Ramón Correa on the board of Petroecuador in October 2023. His last decision announced on December 7 was the termination of the insurance contract with La Union.

During his administration, Petroecuador’s production rose to 411,000 equivalent barrels (including crude oil and gas). Previously, he presented the possibility of carrying out a kind of pre-sale of oil for 1.2 billion dollars, which had no effect.
