Business expectations have not yet recovered, and most are negative, according to the latest annual report from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

In detail, in the short term (three months) the perspectives on the development of the economy, the business sector, the situation of a company, demand, hiring of personnel and investments are below 50 points, that is, in the pessimistic terrain.

While in the long term (twelve months) a pronounced drop is observed in expectations about the situation of a company. The rest slightly edged into the positive range.

Although the sales and business production projections recovered compared to the October BCRP survey, they are still accompanied by pessimism.

It should be added that business expectations have remained negative for more than two and a half years, and after a 2023 marked by the deterioration of GDP – which would culminate in 0% or even below, its most alarming variation without considering the pandemic – specialists They warn that the constant political crisis and citizen insecurity dent private investment projections.
