The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, provided details on the tax reform proposed by the Executive for the mining sector. This seeks to increase the tax burden from 3 to 4 points, as reported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Collection in the mining sector for Peru (41.7%) is lower than in other countries such as Chile (47.1%), Brazil (47.9%), Canada (49.9%), Mongolia (55, 2%) and the Congo (70.7%).

The BCRP raised the reference interest rate to 2.50%. This figure is higher than pre-pandemic levels, since in February 2020 it stood at 2.25% for the fourth month. Adrián Armas, Central Manager of Economic Studies of the BCRP, pointed out that this increase could be seen reflected in the interest rate of short-term loans and those with low credit risk.

Monday, December 13, marked the 144th day of the blockade of the Las Bambas mining project (Apurímac), considered one of the most important in the country in copper extraction.
