The Supervisory Commission of the National Assembly will open the phase of the investigation in connection with the energy crisis that caused power outages in the country, and its goal is to determine the political responsibility of officials in the government of former President Guillermo Lasso.

This investigative process is part of the five axes defined by the Review Committee chaired by Assembly member Pamela Aguirre, from the Civil Revolution movement, which includes the topics of the state of the fiscal fund and public debt; public health, which will include a review of the state of IESS hospitals, health centers and health centers; the state of the country in terms of child malnutrition; road projects of the country, ports and airports.

Regarding political trials, the Supervisory Board requested a report from the Legislative-Administrative Council on the legal path to be followed in relation to the requests for trials raised in the previous legislative period, where it was also determined whether the deadlines that the Parliament had. proclamation of death on the cross on May 17.

Pamela Aguirre claimed that the Oversight Committee will open the file when Assembly Speaker Henry Kronfle sends an order for the prosecution of political trials. At the moment, he added, the commission does not have a physical file, and all requests are at the General Secretariat of the Assembly.

Ramiro Vela (ADN), a member of the Commission, also indicated that they hope that a report will be sent from CAL to know what to do next with the political trials, which would be six requests. There are political processes against the advisors of the National Electoral Council (CNE), the request for the interpellation of the former Minister of Public Works Daría Herrera; against two members of the Judicial Council; and the request for a trial against the former Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion, Esteban Bernal, among others.

As for the priority issues, legislator Vela explained that the plan is to research the energy crisis, for which several appearances are planned between former officials and current secretaries of state, experts in the field; This is expected to establish political responsibility for power outages.

The representative of Tungurahu commented that an investigation will also be opened regarding the issue of risk, what was done and what was not done in the previous Government to prevent the effects of the El Niño phenomenon; The opening of the social security inspection procedure in the area of ​​drug supply and health care is also expected.

As for mobility, it is expected to investigate the state of the country’s roads, ports and airports, and to learn about the actions carried out by the previous Government in connection with the security situation of carriers.

Electric crisis

The first inspection that this table will carry out is the electricity sector, for this they will organize a meeting this Monday, December 4 at 10:00 to receive information from the current Minister of Energy and Mining, Andrea Arrobo; Finance Minister Juan Carlos Vega was also invited; Minister of Foreign Trade, Sonsoles García; and former Minister of Finance Pablo Arosemena.

The former Minister of Energy, Fernando Santos Alvite, has also been invited, as has the manager of Celec, Gonzalo Uquillas, where he will have to explain the actions they took in response to the warnings of the technical teams to avoid blackouts.

According to the president of the Supervisory Commission, Pamela Aguirre, they expect the new Minister of Energy to report on the status in which she received the state portfolio, what the state should know about power outages, the energy crisis, and approximately how long this measure, which affects productivity in the country, will last.

The investigative procedure that the Supervisory Board will develop will be independent of the beginning of the political trial of the former Minister of Energy, Fernando Santo Alvite, which was requested by the Council of the National Democratic Action, which holds the former official responsible for dereliction of duty and the lack of timely measures to avoid the loss of electricity in the country.

This recall request is still in the Legislative Administrative Council for familiarization and training and will depend on the processing of other requests in order to define the deadlines in which the interpellation procedure will take place.
