Only 4 out of 10 people with disabilities of working age have a job

He National Council for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (Conadis) He reported that 4 out of every 10 Peruvians with disabilities of working age have a job, according to data reported in 2022 by the National Household Survey (Enaho). It is worth remembering that this December 3rd marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

According to the survey, compared to the population without disabilities, which has an employment rate of 70.6%, a significant gap is evident in the labor market in terms of the inclusion of people with disabilities.

In this regard, Conadis specifies that the high rates of job desertion in the population with disabilities negatively impact their financial income and their inclusion in society. because it weakens their economic autonomy and limits their ability to cover basic needs, such as food, housing and medical care.

Low educational level

There are multiple factors that influence the reduced participation of people with disabilities in the labor market, including education. According to Enaho 2022, 41% of the population with disabilities only manages to complete some degree of primary education at the national level. This is compared to 19.5% of people with disabilities who do not reach any educational level.

In this way, the urgent need to address the educational challenges faced by this sector of the population is evident, according to Conadis. The changes will be reflected to the extent that inclusive educational environments that support people with disabilities are generated, with the granting of reasonable adjustments, constant training of staff and timely access to alternative educational resources.

National Disability Observatory

The figures that show a recent diagnosis of the disabled population were presented in the new National Disability Observatory. This platform is considered one of the few digital spaces in Latin America designed to provide information on disability, in an accessible and agile way.

The National Disability Observatory is hosted at the following web address observatorio.conadisperu.gob.pe and contains information related to: rights of people with disabilities, recent research, updated statistical data, route to process claims for violations of rights, among other sections.
