The construction of the Iruro dam, in the district of Acari, It will have a reservoir capacity of 61 million cubic meters, a pipeline of 35.7 km and an improvement of 89 km of canals.

The primary goals of the project include not only the construction of the Iruro dam, but also the implementation of the intake system (intake) and sand trap, the main conduction channel using reinforced pipe, as well as various structures, such as 16 main intakes, gutters, 9 siphons, drainage ditches, crown ditches and vehicular bridges, among other elements.

Iruro irrigation project: how many citizens will benefit?

With the construction of the Iruro dam and the associated canal, it is expected to improve water security and increase agricultural productivity in these important regions of Peru. The significant impact on the agricultural development of the Arequipa region will be seen with a benefited area of ​​8,071 hectares, while, in Ayacucho, 2,178 hectares will be irrigated.

The work will benefit 2,665 families made up of olive tree producers from the districts of Acari and Beautiful Union, province of Caravelí (Arequipa), while with pasture crops for livestock production in the district of Saint John of Lucanas, province of Lucanas (Ayacucho).

Iruro irrigation project: what is the investment in the work?

Financing and execution will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri). Through a chief resolution, issued by the Irrigation Subsector Program (PSI), body attached to Midagri, the technical file of Balance of Work of the project was approved, “Acarí Bella Unión II Stage of construction of the Iruro dam”, Phase 1 in accordance with Law No. 30225 and amending regulations. The irrigation project works will require an investment of S/185.2 million and its execution period is 610 days.

Likewise, a public tender has already been called to define the company that will carry out the work.

On the first occasion, the Government announced that the construction of the dam, which will provide water for the citizens of the provinces of Caravelí and San Juan de Lucanas, would begin in the month of December 2023. However; It is currently known that the closest thing to be carried out would be 2024.
