This Wednesday evening, November 29, the first ExpoChina 2023 fair opens in Quito. This morning, the doors of the Metropolitan Convention Center (Parque Bicentenario) opened with an exhibition of 60 companies from the automotive, energy, logistics and technology sectors. They expose their products and services to a wide and diverse audience, which includes buyers, distributors, suppliers and other key players in the country’s business sector.

The director of the Ecuadorian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Andrés Zhang, explained that 12 editions of the event were held in Guayaquil, given that the main port is the commercial center of the country. But, he said, from now on the fair in Quito will become a tradition.

Tonight’s event was to be hosted by the Minister of Production, Sonsoles García, and the Chinese Ambassador, Chen Guoyou.

In the morning hours, during the first day of the fair, ExpoChina held a series of talks about the import cycle from China. In this, they dealt with topics such as business with China and the like e-commercelogistics, artificial intelligence and supplier search.

There will be two events for this Thursday. Tournament of table tennis in which Ecuadorian and Chinese companies participate and the event networking VIP. There will also be a farewell cocktail.

The fair is gaining importance because the possibility of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), signed in May 2023 between Ecuador and China and declared constitutional a few weeks ago, is underway in the country. This covers more than 90% of Ecuador’s export supply. The issue is currently in the hands of the Assembly.

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Ecuador has provided some information on the importance of trade with China. He said that the Free Trade Agreement between Ecuador and China foresees 17 sectors and disciplines with which it is committed to promote the country’s exports to one of the largest markets in the world, such as China.

The agreement also includes issues of cooperation, investment, services and intellectual property.

According to the Central Bank of Ecuador, in 2022, Ecuadorian exports to China totaled $5.739 million, while Chinese imports to Ecuador reached $6.165 million.
