Midagri: 8 regions increased their agricultural exports until September

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported that between January-September of this year, Agroexports grew in 8 of the country’s 24 departments.

In detail, in the mountain region, the growth of agricultural exports of Apurimac (+19.3%), in products such as ptall, the rest kiwicha, potato even if they are cooked in water or steam, frozen; Huancavelica (+217.8%), in products such as ptall, other beans, other mushrooms and dried truffles.

While, in the jungle, the growth of agro-exports of San Martin (+12.%), in which sales of cocoa beans, palm oil and its fractions, unroasted coffee without decaffeination.

On the coast, growth in exports was recorded in Ancash (+11%), in which products stand out, such as avocados, fresh cranberries, fresh mangoes; in Arequipa (+3.1%), the artichokes, fresh grapes, other fresh fruits; while Ica (+5.1%) products were placed such as fresh grapes, avocados, fresh or chilled asparaguss; in Moquegua (+0.5%) sales of fresh cranberries, avocados were detailed; and in Piura (+2.7%), sales of products such as fresh mangoes, fresh grapes, bananas including plantains.

Fruit exports exceeded US$6 billion

On the other hand, in the January-September period of this year, agricultural exports totaled more than US$6.6 billion, driven by the placement of fruits and vegetables in the main international markets, reported Midagri.

Non-traditional agro-exports reached US$6,073 million and registered a slight decrease of 0.4% compared to the same period in 2022. The leading products in the agro-export ranking were avocados, with a total of US$953 million and a share of 16%, followed by fresh grapes with US$689 million (11%). Fresh cranberries were in third place with US$607 million (10%), followed by fresh or chilled asparagus with a sum of US$251 million (4.1%) and fresh mangoes which reached US$208 million (3. 4%).

In addition, it is worth highlighting the sales of animal feed, which reached US$185 million (3.0%), followed by other varieties of citrus fruits with US$163 million (2.7%), and other cocoa beans with a total of US$150 million (2.5%). Frozen mango and other varieties of paprika also appeared on the list and registered US$111 million (1.8%) and US$104 million (1.7%), respectively. These ten products together represent 56% of the non-traditional exportable supply.

Main destinations

The 10 main destination countries for Peruvian agricultural exports were the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Ecuador, Chile, China, England, Mexico, Colombia, Germany and others. This group of countries concentrated 78% of the total value exported in the study period.
