The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) revealed in its latest report that remittance shipments from Peruvian workers abroad reached US$1,094 million during the second quarter of 2023, marking an increase of 19.2% compared to the previous year. same period of the previous year.

According to data provided by Global66, a global financial products and services platform, remittances entering the country have exceeded US$50 million in volume by September 2023. Australia, Colombia and Spain stand out as the three main shipping routes.

María José Artacho, Country Manager of Global66, pointed out that the primary reasons for sending money from fintech in Peru include savings, support for family members and educational expenses. In addition, she indicated that transactions related to international businesses, payment of services and even rents are generating a significant economic flow.

During the period between January and September 2023, the platform experienced considerable growth, exceeding 130% in the volume of transactions linked to remittances, currency exchange and international collections.

In the Latin American context, Artacho highlighted that Colombia is positioned as the main destination for remittances, showing solid growth in both directions. In particular, he mentioned a 110% increase in transfers from Colombia to Peru and more than 200% growth in remittances from Peru to Colombia, with an average exceeding US$850 per transaction.

In addition, markets such as Chile, Brazil and Mexico have also shown a notable increase in this type of transactions, according to the figures presented by the fintech.

“Remittances contribute to the Peruvian economy and are an important support for families. Being able to access them quickly and safely is essential,” reported Artacho.
