They propose withdrawal of up to S/4,950 for members who stopped contributing for 3 consecutive months

Congresswoman Jeny López Morales of Popular Force proposes authorizing a seventh withdrawal of AFP funds of up to S/4,950 (1 UIT) for those members who do not register contributions in the last 3 months. The objective is to help reduce the impact of the economic recession that the country is going through.

According to bill 6494, members could submit their request within 30 calendar days after the publication of the withdrawal procedure and the total amount of money will be paid by the AFP in the following 30 days. The Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS)for its part, would have a maximum period of 10 calendar days to publish the withdrawal operational procedure.

“Actions are required on the part of the State to counteract the effects on families that have lost employment and urgently require provisions from their Individual Capitalization Account, administered by the AFP, to address the lack of liquidity and to protect their health, food, medicines and overcome the cycle of economic recession that the country is going through,” the initiative states.

What is needed for a seventh AFP withdrawal to be approved?

Next Wednesday, November 29, the report to authorize workers to withdraw funds from the AFP would be presented to the Economy Commission. Although to date it is not clear whether the proposal will go for a limited withdrawal or for up to S/19,800 (4 UIT).

Initiatives such as that of Congresswoman López could be included within this prediction; if approved in the working group, it would be ready to be debated and voted on in the Plenary. It should be noted that if the initiative is not focused, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) will observe the rule, which would postpone its promulgation until the first quarter of 2024.

How many members would benefit?

The bill indicates that the beneficiaries of this measure would be 4.6 million members, since according to the SBS this is the number of people who have more than one (1) UIT in their Individual Capitalization Account. However, if the condition is set that they have not contributed for at least 3 months, the universe could be smaller than indicated.
