Eight new electrical projects involving a private investment of 700 million dollars remained under concession by the government of Guillermo Lasso, and this Tuesday, November 21 afternoon, the contracts were signed in Carondelet.

From these plans comes more than 420 MW that will enter the National Distribution System, the outgoing president pointed out: “We are promoting projects that guarantee optimal distribution of electricity in the future. In these 30 months, we have mobilized private investments for the development of the energy sector,” said Lasso.

The government indicated that the processes were carried out as part of the tender and that it will increase the installed capacity and production of renewable energy in the country. In the case of the concession agreement signed for Conolophus, in the Galapagos Islands (Baltra and Santa Cruz), the president pointed out that the replacement of the use of fossil fuels will be achieved, which will benefit 7 out of every 10 inhabitants of the Galapagos.

The Minister of Energy and Mining, Fernando Santos, indicated that by signing the concession for these new projects, the electricity supply is ensured for several years.

The French company NEOEN will be in charge of three solar projects in Imbabura: Intiyana Solar, Ambi Solar and Imbabura Solar. Company representative Jean Michel Chauvet said that bidding began in 2021. The concession will last for 25 years, after which ownership will be transferred to the state.

For the French ambassador to Ecuador, Frédéric Desagneaux, the signing of these agreements is a milestone for the cooperation between the two nations. He pointed out that France will accompany the country on its way through the ecological transition, especially in the creation of clean energy and the creation of jobs, according to information provided by the Secretariat of Communications of the Presidency.
