Cusco and Arequipa among the regions with the greatest mobilization of passengers until September

Between January and September 2023, some 27 million passengers were transported nationwide, which represents an increase of 16.5% compared to the same period last year, but does not exceed the pre-pandemic figure, as there is a drop in 9.1%, according to the ComexPerú report. Of the total, International trips totaled a little more than 7 million and national trips almost 20 million.

At the departmental level, Lima ranks first as the region with the highest passenger movement at its Jorge Chávez Airport (16.7 million) and presents an increase of 18.8% compared to 2022, but with a contraction of 12. 1% compared to 2019.

In the ranking they followed Cusco (2.1 million), Arequipa (1.4 million), Piura (1.1 million), San Martín (794,798) and Loreto (769,498). Moquegua was the region that grew the most in trips, registering an increase of 58.3%, while Puno fell by 35.3%.

Although global figures have not yet exceeded pre-pandemic numbers, some regions did reach this goal. For example, Huánuco registered a passenger movement of 52,491 between January and September 2019 and this year it reached 133,776, 154.9% more. Trips also grew in Tumbes (75.4%), La Libertad (49.1%) and Ayacucho (29.7%).
