Shopping centers have restored their sales levels compared to pre-pandemic figures, and the influx of visitors is on the mend.

These indicators generate optimism in the sector, which anticipates a growth of 2% during the current Christmas campaign, according to Carlos Neuhaus, executive president of the Association of Shopping Centers of Peru (ACCEP), who made these statements during the VIII International Retail Forum organized by the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL).

“We hope to grow, although conservative, by 2% in real terms,” Neuhaus commented. For her part, Leslie Passalacqua, president of the retail and distribution union of the CCL, adopts a more cautious position and affirms that due to the current economic situation, the Christmas campaign “is complicated.” “The first challenge will be to try to achieve the numbers for 2022”, he warns. He adds that this is an optimistic forecast in a context of inflation and recession, situations that were not present last year.

Passalacqua adds that to achieve last year’s sales level, retailers are implementing various strategies, including Black Friday next Friday, November 24. Likewise, it mentions that if sales do not perform as expected, it will be necessary for stores to take measures that favor the customer instead of prioritizing the company’s profit margin, such as resorting to discounts to avoid running out of stock of products. . “That in Christmas It was never done,” he emphasizes.

Forecasts to 2024

Regarding the sector’s forecasts, Neuhaus indicated that the Parque Arauco group’s new mall in La Molina is scheduled to open by the end of 2024.
