The American corporation amazon are considering starting layoffs at its Alexa development division, with hundreds of employees affected according to a statement obtained by CNBC. These cuts are part of a broader adjustment that the company has been carrying out in the last year.

Amazon’s vice president of Alexa and Fire TV, Daniel Rausch, told employees that the company’s decision is focused on maximizing the resources dedicated to artificial intelligence.

“As we continue to invent, we are shifting some of our efforts to better align with our business priorities and what we know is most important to customers, including maximizing our resources and efforts focused on generative AI. These changes are helping us leading to the suspension of some initiatives, which is causing the elimination of several hundred positions,” he indicated.

These layoffs are not isolated; This same week cuts have begun in the games division, with up to 180 employees potentially affected.

In its most recent quarterly report, Amazon posted a net profit of $9.9 billion, a significant increase from $2.9 billion a year earlier in the same period. Net sales also grew 13%, reaching US$143.1 billion.
