MEF modifies the price range for sugar, corn, rice and milk powder

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) updated the reference prices and additional variable duties, established in the Price Band System, for imports of corn, sugar, rice (shelled and milled) and powdered milk.

Vice-ministerial resolution No. 020-2023-EF/15.01 establishes that the reference price for the corn It will be US$228 per metric ton (MT), while the additional variable duty will be US$0 per MT.

For its part, the reference price for the import of sugar It will be US$723 per MT, with an additional variable duty of -U$241 per MT.

As for rice, the reference price will rise to US$755 per MT as of January 1, 2023 (according to the averages obtained based on the prices observed in the period from October 1 to October 31 of this year).

It should be noted that the additional variable duty of the rice It will be -US$51 for the shelled variety and -US$73 for the peeled, according to MEF.

The price band system was implemented in Peru in 2001, in order to stabilize import costs with the prices of products such as hard yellow corn, rice, sugar and powdered milk, characterized by marked instability in their international prices.
