MEF asks the business community to put aside “pessimism”

A week after launching the United Plan with the purpose of reactivating public and private investment, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras, participated yesterday in the last day of the CADE Executives 2023, this time, seeking to persuade business leaders local to invest in Peru.

The highest authority of the MEF urged the private sector to focus on coincidences with the Executive instead of differences, with the aim of achieving a “shock of confidence.”

“We need a brave and firm business community (…) that believes in Peru again,” he emphasized.

Contreras Miranda emphasized that the commitment of this administration is to generate the best conditions for private investment to advance.

Reforms in sight

Part of the conditions that the Executive speaks about are linked to a series of reforms that the Government has set its sights on and that in recent days it has begun to address publicly.

One of the measures is related to the proposal to promote changes in the agrarian promotion law, approved during Sagasti’s mandate, which, among other provisions, progressively increases the income tax of agro-export companies from 15% to 29%. ,5%.

On the first day of CADE, Prime Minister Alberto Otárola mentioned the intention to implement a set of tax incentives with the objective of “boosting investment and employment” in strategic sectors.

For his part, Contreras highlighted the proposal to reform the Pension System sent to Congress in October. In addition, he anticipated that a proposal to reform tax regimes aimed at smaller companies will soon be presented.

He pointed out that the last six years of political instability has prevented important reforms in the country.

Eliminate pessimism

Finally, the head of the MEF made reference to business expectations, whose short-term indicators remain in pessimistic territory, and long-term expectations have deteriorated.

“We need to trust ourselves again, it is time to stop this absurd pessimism that is causing delays in the country. Let’s trust Peru again,” Contreras urged.

However, this call loses strength with the absence of President Dina Boluarte, who had no participation in the business event.
