In a formal public event in the district of La Brea Negritos (Piura), the Peruvian Government made official the reversion of Lot Z-69, previously called Lot Z-2B, in favor of Petroperú.
The event was attended by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Oscar Vera, the president of Perupetro, Isabel Tafur Marín, the president of the Energy and Mines Commission of Congress, Segundo Quiroz, the district mayor Ronald Rebolledo, and the president of Petroperú board of directors, Pedro Chira, among other officials.
“It is a historic day for our country, the province of Talara and the Piura region. After 30 years, the Peruvian State once again takes charge of hydrocarbon operations in Block Z-69,” said Minister Oscar Vera.
Block Z-69 was privatized for 30 years and its last operator was Savia, since 2009. It has an average production of 4,800 barrels per day (bpd), although Petroperú has offered to increase its production. However, the brevity of the 2-year commission could frustrate this task.
“The signing of this License Contract will ensure the continuity of extractive operations and will guarantee the new sources of work that oil activity will offer to the region,” continued the head of Minem.
Likewise, Minister Vera said that the reversal of Lot Z-69 will contribute to continuing to strengthen the presence of the Peruvian State, through Petroperú, as an important player in the strategic fuel production and marketing market.
“The expiration of the hydrocarbon concessions given in the nineties constitutes a great opportunity to generate greater investment possibilities in the northwest, since the modernization of the Talara refinery creates spaces to call on new bidders to participate not only in the exploitation but in exploration in order to provide new reserves,” he highlighted.
