In the midst of the difficult economic situation that the country is going through, many people are looking for different ways to get extra money to cover their end-of-year expenses. In some cases, they download applications of unknown origin that offer and pay loans, without taking into account that they could be victims of scams by unscrupulous gangs.
When they install and use these apps on their cell phones, they are authorizing the delivery of personal information, the contact directory they have, as well as the photos and videos that will be used by cybercriminals to collect all this data. Given this situation, the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) published a list of applications that users should avoid to safeguard their security and privacy.
What are the illegal loan applications?
The SBS carried out an analysis of the various money lending applications that are enabled on the internet and warned the population not to download them; since, in addition to having high charges or interests, they use harmful practices against the honor of users, such as threats or extortion. These are:

Loan applications in Peru: how to recognize that they are safe?
In accordance with Legislative Decree No. 1106 and SBS Resolution No. 6338-2012 and its amendments, the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) establishes that persons or companies that intend to carry out money lending activities in our country must be registered in the Registry of Companies and Persons that carry out Financial or Currency Exchange Operations, which allows said entity to supervise them in matters of prevention of money laundering-financing of terrorism.
The supervisory entity recommends that the population not download these apps without first verifying whether they meet the requirements and access they require, in order to prevent their personal information from being used for improper purposes by cybercriminals.

If you have any questions or complaints related to people or companies that offer informal financial services or that are not registered with the SBS, you can file a complaint with this entity through telephone numbers 0-800-10840 (toll-free nationwide) or 01-200-1930.
