MEF expects the economy to emerge from the recession in the first quarter of 2024

After the presentation of the United Plan, whose objective is to reactivate the economy and face the challenges of the El Niño phenomenonthe Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras, expressed his expectation of overcoming the recession by the first quarter of 2024.

“We hope to get out of this situation in the first quarter of next year, achieving a return to economic growth. Although there are risks, we have the advantage that our Gross Domestic Product (GDP), our monthly indicator of economic activity, allows us to evaluate month by month whether it accelerates. We are working hard to achieve this goal,” said Contreras in an interview on Radio Nacional.

Likewise, he indicated that they hope that inflation is between 3.5 and 3.6 for Decemberapproaching the goal of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), and anticipates signs of economic recovery for these last months of the year.

“There are encouraging indicators, such as the increase in exports and mining investment. In September, mining investment experienced a significant increase, with more than US$2.3 billion in infrastructure projects awarded, highlighting the participation of foreign companies. It is crucial that the Peru recovers and positions itself again at the international level,” Contreras concluded.
