The Peruvian Government established, for a period of 30 calendar days, the reproductive ban on bonito (Sarda chiliensis chiliensis) throughout the Peruvian coast, starting today, November 11, 2023.
Ministerial resolution 000377-2023-PRODUCE prohibits all extractive activities that involve this resource, as well as its transportation, processing, marketing or storage.
“Unless there is indubitable documentation of a certain date that demonstrates that the aforementioned resource has been extracted before the establishment of the aforementioned reproductive ban,” the document clarifies.
dThis period can be modified if the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe) shows changes in the evolution of the reproductive process of the aforementioned resource.for which it must send the recommendations with the corresponding measures to the Ministry of Production.
Said organization carries out the monitoring and follow-up of the main biological, population and fishing indicators of the beautiful resource, and must promptly inform and recommend to the Ministry of Production (Produce) the measures that are necessary.
The General Directorate of Policies and Regulatory Analysis in Fisheries and Aquaculture, the General Directorate of Artisanal Fisheries and the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction of the Vice-Ministerial Office of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Produce carry out the corresponding dissemination actions and ensure compliance of the provisions of the reproductive ban on bonito.
“Without prejudice to the actions that may be carried out by the agencies with fishing jurisdiction of the respective Regional Governments and the General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guard of the Peruvian Navy of the Ministry of Defense, within the scope of their powers,” it states. the document signed by Minister Ana María Choquehuanca.
