The National Labor and Wages Council (CNTS) of Ecuador, which is made up of workers and employers, begins meetings to define the Single Basic Wage (SBU) for 2024 starting this Thursday, November 9.
The current salary in Ecuador is 450 dollars, which according to the Statista portal is the fourth highest in Latin America. The first is from Costa Rica with 352,926 colones, which at the current exchange rate would be equivalent to $665.14; followed by Uruguay: 21,106 Uruguayan pesos ($528.39); and Chile at 410.00 Chilean pesos ($451.57). The lowest would be from Venezuela: 130 bolivars ($3.70).
Workers and employers will meet this Thursday, November 9, at 3:00 p.m. to start defining the salary for 2024.
These are the minimum wages in Latin America that will be valid in 2023, according to the current change:
The salary in Ecuador could be set at $475 by 2024, in case workers and employers do not reach a consensus, as the government announced last October. However, the Ecuadorian Business Committee requested that the definition of the SBU be left in the hands of President-elect Daniel Noboa’s government.
The first meeting of the National Wage Council is scheduled for this Thursday, November 9 afternoon, at the Ministry of Labour.
