The Private Investment Promotion Agency – ProInversión reported that the international public tender for the modernization project of the Huancayo-Huancavelica line (Macho Train) has unleashed, so far, the interest of 7 companies specialized in the development of railway projects.

According to the agency attached to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), these companies, which include railway project operators, construction companies, rolling stock suppliers, among others, They come from the Latin American region, Europe and Asia.

The prequalification period as a bidder expires on November 30, 2023. At the close of this date, it will be verified whether the seven interested companies, and others that join in the following days, will present themselves individually or in a consortium.

The director of the ProInversión project, Gian Carlos Silva, stated that a request has been received from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) to incorporate an additional component to the project, for which work is being done on updating information and inspection of the area. of the project.

“This in turn has been communicated to the interested parties, and we already have bilateral meetings scheduled to answer any questions they may have,” Silva said.

Modernization of the Male Train: When will it be awarded?

After modifications to the project, the Final Version of the Concession Contract will be concluded so that it can be approved by the entities that are part of the PPP system: the MTC, the MEF, the regulatory body and the Comptroller General of the Republic.

As reported by ProInversión, the award for the modernization of the Huancayo – Huancavelica ‘Male Train’ is scheduled for the First Quarter of 2024.

It should be noted that this project was scheduled to be awarded in December 2023, but this period has been extended until the First Quarter of 2024 at the request of the MTC and in turn at the requests of interested companies to extend the planned period.

ProInvrsión reported that, with the modernization project, the Tren Macho will have a renovated infrastructure, new rolling stock and a signaling and control system that will guarantee a safe, efficient and comfortable transportation system for users. Male train: How long will it be concessioned?

The project, promoted by ProInversión on behalf of the MTC, will be concessioned for 30 years to provide transportation service to the population, meeting international quality standards for the benefit of more than 1.2 million people from both departments.
