The President of the Republic Guillermo Lasso announced that as of this Tuesday, Ecuador already receives energy from Peru: between 30 and 35 MW per day up to a maximum of 50 MW, which is the capacity of the transmission network. The possibility of receiving energy from Peru was one of the measures announced by the Government to combat the blackout in the country from October 26.

The President also recalled a number of measures that have already been taken and those that will be taken for the same purpose. Based on them, the government will “constantly evaluate the energy situation in order to determine the reduction or abolition of electricity rationing throughout the country,” he said.

For example, he recalled that “as of last week, Colombia sold 10,000 MWh to Ecuador, which means the delivery of energy between 350 MW and 450 MW, as we agreed with President Petro.” He also reminded that the thermal power plant Termoesmeraldas I started operating on Saturday, November 4; supplies 125 MW to the national interconnected system.

He also announced that the bidding process for Empresa Eléctrica Quito and distributors has already started with the inclusion of emerging electricity for 465 MW. Bids are received until November 11, and the awarding will take place, according to the schedule, on November 17. This solution is expected to be operational from mid to late December.

In addition, he said that in the coming days, the tender for the import of gas for Termogás Machala will begin.

Among other future measures, he said the following:

Added to these actions is the improvement of hydrological conditions in Coca Codo Sinclair, Mazar and Paute due to the onset of rain in the southern Sierra.
