This November 9, the first session of the National Council for Work and Wages will be held, where an effort will be made to reach a consensus on the definition of the basic salary that will rule in Ecuador from January 1, 2024.

This year, the decision is framed in the midst of a presidential transition following the proclamation of the death on the cross promoted by President Guillermo Lasso last May, which led to the election of Daniel Noboa as the new president.

On November 9, members of the National Council for Work and Wages will meet to discuss the basic salary for 2024.

In accordance with the Ministerial Agreement MDT-2020-185, which establishes the procedure for calculating the salary, it is indicated that the National Council for Labor and Wages will meet by November 20 of each year to determine the variation, ” National Council for Labor and Wages until this date will determine the procedure and methodology of the discussion on determining the single basic salary.”

If no consensus is reached, the Ministry of Labor will determine the amount of the increase in accordance with Article 118 of the Labor Law.

The government has already predicted that, if this situation occurs, the increase will be $25, that is, the salary will be $475.

The date this situation would occur would be before November 30th, before the possession of Noboa, the date of which has not yet been defined and would be between November 30th and December 1st.
