The Consumer Defense Commission of the Congress of the Republic, unanimously approved the opinion issued to the Pbill no. 4509/2022-CR, which proposes to modify the Law for the promotion of healthy eating for children and adolescents, and incorporates the phrase “Not recommended for pregnant women”in those products not suitable for pregnant women, that affect the normal growth of the conceived child.

In this sense, it is proposed to add in article 4 of said norm that “the Ministry of Health encourages pregnant women to consume protein foods of high biological value and promotes in the media the advantages for pregnant women of eating in a healthy way with natural foods with high nutritional content necessary for the growth of the conceived child.

Likewise, it is indicated that advertising that is directed at children and adolescents under 16 years of age and pregnant women that is disseminated through any medium or social media must be in accordance with health promotion policies, Not having to point out the benefits of consuming natural foods with high nutritional content, they contribute to the health of the conceived child and a healthy and balanced pregnancy. .

Furthermore, it is specified that in advertising, including that which is stated on the product, of foods and non-alcoholic drinks with trans fats and high content of sugar, sodium and saturated fats, The following phrases must be stated in a clear, legible, prominent and understandable manner, as applicable: “High in (Sodium-sugar-saturated fat): avoid excessive consumption” either “Contains trans fats: avoid consumption“.

Likewise, on the packaging or wrapping, the phrase Not recommended for pregnant women“, in those products not suitable
for pregnant women, as the case may be.
