This Saturday, authorities from various ministries will carry out a technical visit and hold an inter-institutional technical table to articulate actions against the erosion registered in the Piedra Fina river, one of the tributaries of the Quijos river, in the province of Napo, which has affected on the Baeza – Lago Agrio highway and that could put the infrastructure of the country’s oil transportation system at risk.

The meeting seeks to protect the physical safety of workers and residents, safeguard the strategic infrastructure of the oil, electricity and road sectors existing in the area, in addition to protecting the environment.

At the moment, as a measure preventive, crude oil pumping operations remain suspended and fuel derivatives, through SOTE and the Shushufindi – Quito Poliducto, however, fuel dispatch and distribution operations are normal in the country.

According to Petroecuador, this suspension is intended to safeguard the integrity of the pipelines that carry hydrocarbons from the eastern region of the country. The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) closed the Baeza – Lago Agrio road indefinitely, until evaluations are made and the type of intervention to be carried out to recover is determined. connectivity. For its part, the Agency for the Regulation and Control of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources, carries out daily monitoring of the construction of the variants of the Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline (OCP), SOTE and Poliducto Shushufindi – Quito. Also, monitor construction compliance of the bypasses to divert the Petroecuador and OCP pipelines, where it has been verified that all the buildings made do not cause environmental effects.

In this line, technical staff of the Ministry of the Environment supervises the implementation of prevention plans, contingency and mitigation established by related institutions, to take response actions in the event of a possible environmental emergency.
