Speakers from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, the United States and Spain are arriving in the country to participate in the Women’s Economic Forum (WEF), a meeting that will analyze the issues gender and equality. This space for the active promotion of women in the economic field will take place on November 10 in Quito, at the Mercure Hotel, and will have more than 39 panels on innovation, business, health and sustainable practices.

According to the Chamber of Industry and Production, by 2023, 70% of the inactive population will be women. Additionally, they state that there is a group of women who, due to different needs, work without legal benefits and receive less than their male peers; and that the salary difference between men and women is on average 20%.

These and other issues will be addressed by panelists who will be part of this space, including: Ximena Cantuarias, Telemundo Senior Vice President of Production; Semi Castillo, doctor of education, specialist in neuroscience and professor at Harvard; Martha Herrera, Secretary of Equality and Inclusion of the Government of Nuevo León, Isabel Noboa, Executive President of Nobis Holding de Inversiones; Gabriela Sommerfeld, tourism and construction entrepreneur; Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez, who led Operation Esperanza, which found alive four indigenous children lost for 40 days in the jungle; Juan Carlos de Hoz, representative of IDB Ecuador; Show Break Djembè World Champions Dance Studio in Cali, Carmen Sánchez-Laulhé, Vice President of the Andean Region of Atrevia & Brazil, among others.

Catalina Cajías, director of WEF Ecuador, pointed out that the space for participation is open to both men and women. “Creating and promoting collaborative leadership to build positive change, WEF is proud to act as an articulator in this process of building circles of economic and social development,” said Cajías.

WEF was born in India in 2015 with more than 90 editions and impacting more than 500,000 women in 150 countries. In its third edition in Ecuador, this meeting will strengthen economic and social ecosystems, promoting inclusive and sustainable development with a strong focus on SDG 5, which responds to gender equality.
