He Unacem Group announced the closing of the purchase of all of the interests of Martin Marietta Southern California Cement LLC—which includes an integrated clinker and cement operation located in Tehachapi, California—as part of its strategy to face new challenges aimed at generating value and the consolidation of its regional presence. The transaction is valued at US$315 million.
The Tehachapi plant, located 170 km from the city of Los Angeles and 650 km from the Drake Cement plant—belonging to the cement group—in Paulden, Arizona; It operates today with a production capacity of 1 million short tons of cement and 940,000 short tons of clinker.
This acquisition marks a significant milestone for the Unacem Group, as they said, since it will allow it to double its current installed capacity in the North American southwest. It should be noted that the new company that owns the plant, that joins this Peruvian industrial group, will take the name of Tehachapi Cement LLC.
With the closing of this purchase, the Unacem Group strengthens its core business investment portfolio, expanding its presence to seven cement plants distributed in Peru (Lima and Junín), the United States (Arizona and California), Chile (San Antonio and San Juan) and Ecuador (Otavalo). Together, these facilities will add a total installed annual production capacity of more than 12 million tons of cement.
