INEI: fishing, mining and hydrocarbon production rose during September

The latest report on the Conjunctural Advancement of the Economy prepared by the INEI reveals that, during September, fishing, mining and hydrocarbon production continued in positive territory.

Fishing closed at 16.92% due to the greater extraction of species (29.77%) for direct human consumption for canned (154.7%), fresh consumption (28.4%) and frozen (27.2%); while for cured, it fell 43.3%.

Meanwhile, fishing for indirect human consumption – that is, anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil – totaled 436 tons, 52.42% less than the 953 tons seen in September 2022.

And continental fishing fell 13.70% due to the lower capture of species for consumption in fresh, frozen and cured states.

Mining and hydrocarbons have been positive for 8 months in a row

In the mining and hydrocarbons sector, the advance was 8.82% in the ninth month of the current period, explained by the greater metallic mining activity (7.30%) and the hydrocarbons subsector (19.64%). It’s been 8 months in a row in green.

There was greater production of molybdenum (40.5%), copper (2.0%), gold (12.9%), zinc (8.6%) and iron (25.2%); Silver also fell (-0.8%). The advance of the hydrocarbon subsector was determined by the greater volume of exploitation of natural gas liquids (31.7%) and natural gas (33.6%).

Construction would continue to fall

In September, domestic cement consumption fell 10.48% compared to the same month last year due to lower progress in private and self-construction works.

In total, the sector accumulated a drop of 12.49% until August and a year-on-year drop of 9.45%.
