American Lithium made an updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) that significantly increases the lithium contained in its Falchani project, located in Puno, from the previous MRE of March 2019.
The updated MRE was completed by Stantec Consulting Services Inc. as part of the preliminary economic assessment update process for Falchani and will be incorporated into the mine plan within the updated PEA.
“DRA Global (lead engineer for the updated PEA and PFS at Falchani) is now finalizing the updated PEA and is expected to be finalized in November,” the company said in a statement.
The company revealed that the most indicated measured resources in the highland deposit grew to 5.53 million tons of lithium carbonate equivalent, 476% more than the previous estimate in 2019.
Simon Clarke, CEO of American Lithium, noted that Falchani is now “one of the largest hard rock lithium projects in the world,” with the capacity to produce high-purity lithium carbonate for batteries.
“We are very satisfied with the results of our EIA drilling program and the large increase in resources at Falchani, which includes doubling the lithium content,” stressed the executive.
According to American Lithium, the inclusion of potassium, cesium and rubidium in the resource block model provides the opportunity to include potential sulfate of potash (SOP) and Cs-Rb byproducts in future financial models of the mine, operated locally by Macusani Yellowcake.
The data
- Recently, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), through the General Directorate of Mining Environmental Affairs (DGAAM), admitted for processing the Semi-Detailed Environmental Impact Study-EIAsd of the lithium exploration project Falchaniowned by Macusani Yellowcake.
- American Lithium also contemplates the development of a lithium refinery in Puno, a complex that was not included in the original project.
- Macusani Yellowcake expects that, by its eighth year of operation, Falchani will produce 100,000 tons of lithium carbonate annually.
- American Lithium discovered a new lithium deposit located 6 km west of Falchani in 2023. Is about Quelcaya.
