Minister of Production meets with fishing companies to “offer them a solution”

A few hours before the second anchovy fishing season began, the National Association of Fishing Shipowners (ANAP) of Law 26920 spoke out against how it was being developed, since numerous closures of areas where fishing cannot be done due to the presence of juveniles were implemented and it was specified that the extractive activity would go from mile 10 onwards.

In this way, the timber fleet decided to stop its activities as a measure of protest. This Monday, October 30, three companies associated with the National Fisheries Society (SNP) joined them: CFG Copeinca, Pesquera Diamante and Pesquera Hayduk. Hours later, after the session of the Council of Ministers, the head of the Ministry of Production, Ana María Choquehuanca, announced that she would establish a dialogue with these companies.

“We are a Government in dialogue and at this moment they have a requirement and a request to be able to solve any other problem they have. I will go talk to them to (know) what situation we are facing.” and always try to offer them a solution within the meaning of the support that we can have at Imarpe.“said Choquehuanca.

After the meeting, members of ANAP reported on their social networks that they suspended the strike, as some conclusions and agreements reached preliminarily with the authorities were presented. Among them, they highlight that the request to “update” the minimum sizes to capture anchovy requires an investigation of several months. and “that Imarpe has agreed to analyze.”

Secondly, Imarpe scientists explained that the anomalies of the Peruvian sea are decreasing week by week, which will be favorable for the growth of the anchovy resource. Finally, regarding the restrictions that fishing owners have to access Impulso MyPerú, the minister and the PCM have committed to speaking with each banking entity so that this program benefits them and, if applicable, they would choose to modify the regulation through the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

According to ANAP, on Tuesday, October 31, they will meet again with the head of Produce and the vice minister of Fisheries to carry out a “review of the criteria for establishing zone closures” and the evaluation of the percentage of juveniles that can be captured per season according to data from recent years and taking into account the El Niño phenomenon. It should be noted that the SNP was also present at the meeting.

Everything indicates that the public entity with the greatest power in the fishing sector will continue to give in to industry pressure to improve the figures at the end of the year, as it already did by authorizing the second fishing season without the exploratory phase having concluded.
