Ministry of Economy and Finance rules out granting more bonuses despite recession

Although the Peruvian economy is in a recessionthe Executive Branch does not plan to deliver a new bonus focused on vulnerable families that have been affected by the current economic situation and rising prices, factors that have reduced the purchasing power of citizens.

The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreras, pointed out that, although there are some resources in the contingency reserve, there are no plans to implement more subsidies.

“We have not contemplated any additional targeted bonus like those that occurred during the pandemic or until 2021,” the official said in an interview with La República.

However, he stressed that with these resources it is considered to promote some temporary employment programs that are promoted by the Executive power. “We do have room to finance some measures, such as, for example, reinforcing temporary employment programs for some activities in November and December,” he said.

Likewise, Contreras Miranda emphasized that now the Government’s priority is to execute the available resources. “In general, I believe that the task is rather different at this moment. It is executing the resources. In Con Punch Peru, S/6,000 (million) have been executed. With the supplementary credit we would have between S / 11,000 and S / 12,000 million to be executed in November and December,” he added.

Sectoral measures

The Minister of Economy also announced that in the coming days his office will announce new measures that aim to reactivate the national economy, especially the sectors that are being affected.

“We seek to give a boost to sectors that are currently having problems in terms of production or that have been registering drops in production, (such as) manufacturing, textiles. There we have already sent the bill to Congress. “We are thinking a little about extending some of these benefits to other sectors,” he concluded.
