A few minutes ago, the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, made statements about several agreements reached regarding the electrical crisis that Ecuador is experiencing, which has led to blackouts. One of those agreements is that Colombia will increase the amount of thermal energy it sends to Ecuador, “in the shortest possible time,” until it almost doubles what it currently exports.
“We appreciate Colombia’s support to Ecuador by guaranteeing the sale of energy to Ecuador with the Colombian thermal park. Currently, delivery to Ecuador is an average of 6 gigawatt-hours per day. “Colombia supports us by guaranteeing that it will export 10 gigawatt hours per day,” announced the president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso. This delivery would represent 450 MW.
The decision was made after a meeting with Colombian President Gustavo Petro in Bogota, where, according to Lasso, technical tables will be created in order to establish certain energy valuations, in order to be able to pay or exchange energy for energy, or energy for oil.

President Petro also commented that the idea of the technical tables is that an agreement can be reached that the energy we are selling now can be obtained later, if necessary.
At the moment, Colombia supplies thermal energy to Ecuador at quite high prices, which reached up to 57 cents kwh.
Ecuador currently has a power outage for four consecutive hours in the morning and afternoon. Each distribution company publishes cuts by sector.
Laso also said that after this agreement, upon his arrival in Ecuador, he will discuss with private businessmen the sale of 100 MW of private production, which would cover about 550 MW. In the meantime, the Government of Peru approved the export of 50 MW from Peru to Ecuador. This, he said, could reduce the energy saving regime in the coming weeks.
