“We understand the outrage that the blackouts have caused in the country. We are aware of its effects and are sorry to have to go through this situation. But we are experiencing the worst dry season not seen in the last 50 years. Furthermore, consumption has increased by 15%, and energy production is insufficient to cover it. Electricity generation projects, their contracting and implementation require between two and three years, what we are experiencing is also a consequence of the inaction of previous governments”, he asserted.
On October 26, the Minister of Energy, Fernando Santos Alvite, He said the cuts would take place to protect the system and avoid an electrical collapse.
In his message, Lasso indicated that the Government has already taken some actions to restore the service “in the shortest possible time”, and that more is “in progress”.

* Negotiations with Colombia and Peru on medium-term import contracts “would mean improving the import price and ensuring supply. We are expected to have 200 MW between November and December.”
* Delivery of training to the private sector for production of approximately 250 MW. The operation will be completed at the end of December or the beginning of January, Lasso indicated.
