Petroecuador guarantees that there will be a supply of fuel, after the collapse of a section of the Baeza – Lago Agrio highway

After the collapse of a section of the Baeza – Lago Agrio highway, in the El Reventador sector, due to the regressive erosion of the Coca River, which caused the suspension of the pumping of crude oil and hydrocarbon derivatives from the Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline System ( SOTE) and the Shushufindi-Quito Poliducto, Petroecuador clarified that this will not affect the supply of fuels, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and fuel oil.

“There is a sufficient stock of derivatives in all the terminals of the public company, which will be dispatched to the different trading companies for their subsequent sale to the public,” said Petroecuador.

The state oil company reported on the actions that are coordinated with other institutions to intervene in the damage generated by the natural phenomenon, registered in the Piedra Fina sector, in the province of Napo.

The Agency for the Regulation and Control of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources supervises the construction of the variants of the Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline (OCP), the SOTE and the Poliducto. Likewise, it oversees the construction of the bypasses to divert the Petroecuador and OCP pipelines.

The Ministry of the Environment is in charge of reviewing the application of prevention, contingency and mitigation plans established by the related institutions, to take response actions to a possible environmental emergency.

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) closed the Baeza – Lago Agrio road indefinitely, in the section located in the El Reventador sector, until the evaluations are carried out and the type of intervention to be executed to recover the connectivity.

Faced with the vehicular blockade, the Ministry indicated that the alternative route to circulate is: Y de Baeza – Y de Narupa – Loreto – El Coca – Lago Agrio. (I)
